Fundraising Dinner

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, founder of the Foundation, hosted an intimate fundraising dinner at his residence in Peduase, near Aburi. The function took place on Friday, 18th November 2022.  A selected few of his old friends and new acquaintances and prospective partners of the Foundation attended.

Welcoming his guests, President Kufuor recounted his efforts, through the Foundation, to contribute to the development of Ghana and Africa generally. He lauded the Kufuor Scholars Program which was instituted some seven years ago to prepare young men and women for future leadership. He also spoke about the Kufuor Youth in Agribusiness Program which organized the first national “Youth in Agribusiness Festival” in July 2022.

According to the former president, the Foundation is laying a strong groundwork for the emergence of future leaders in the most critical sectors of national development.  He expressed his pride in the impact his Scholars are already making toward transforming communities.

Finally, President Kufuor recounted his efforts to complete the ongoing construction of the Kufuor Center for Leadership and Governance on the campus of the University of Ghana. The first phase of the project, which is nearing completion, will be a center of excellence for mentoring and training for leadership. “A lot of resources have already been expended on these projects and I need support to continue and sustain them,” President Kufuor told his guests.

Present at the dinner was the British High Commissioner Harriet Thompson, who congratulated the former president on his untiring efforts to assist Ghana’s progress. She promised her support and offered to join the list of mentors for the Kufuor Scholars.

Also present were some special guests from Nigeria, including the representative of H.E. Prince Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State in Nigeria, who delivered a special letter to the president and Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Jack-Rich, founder and CEO of Elin Group, Nigeria.  Dr. Jack-Rich gave a handsome donation and promised to forge a strong partnership between her Group and the Foundation.

Among those making personal donations was Messrs. Andrew Asamoah of A&C Mall fame, George Amuah of Baroncrest Investment, and Isaac Osei-Bonsu, Board Chair of the National Communications Authority.  Also donating were Chief Executives and Managing Directors of notable Banks, financial institutions, and commercial entities from Ghana and Nigeria.

In his closing remarks, Prof Baffour Agyeman-Duah, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, highlighted some achievements and expressed much optimism for the Foundation’s future.  He noted the special support of Mr. Wale Ade Adebajor and Dr. Kofi Osei-Kusi, both of the Pan-African Leadership Institute, and expressed appreciation for donations at the event.
